It started with a shared dream.
We met a few times through friends in college and didn’t think much of it. We even crossed paths at a few parties that both our families were invited to, but we rarely spoke.
In the final weeks of college, we found ourselves talking more — drawn together by some mutual friends and our shared uncertainty of what came next. As summer began and we both set our sights on medical school, that shared hope quietly brought us closer.
During our first jobs as scribes, we ended each day meeting halfway or FaceTiming for hours. We’d send each other music, places we wanted to travel to, and what we wanted to do when we grew up. It was simply friendship — and somewhere along the way, it became something more…

Fast forward to 2024—after four years of medical school and two years of residency—Vandan had Devisha convinced that ring shopping was still a distant thought.
On a trip to Portugal, they arrived at an amazing hotel in the Douro Valley. When Vandan suggested they take a walk to enjoy the view, Devisha didn’t suspect a thing—especially since she was still in her travel clothes.
As she took in the scenery, Vandan quietly got down on one knee beside her, anxiously looking around for the photographer he hired to capture the moment. Devisha turned around to find him smiling, nervous, and holding the ring he “hadn’t even started shopping for”. Later that day, a boat ride through the valley and a private dinner made it even more unforgettable.
